SustEnable Wokingham was set up by a group of local residents who realised that, despite many initiatives in Wokingham and the surrounding area, there was no common platform to promote the hard work done by businesses, sports clubs, schools, local authorities, charities and voluntary groups. Bringing local people, organisations and businesses together to reduce plastic, share practical solutions and create positive environmental change.
SustEnable aims to bring together like-minded individuals who are committed to reducing the use of plastic, promoting environmental values and inspiring positive change toward a fairer, more sustainable world. Our purpose is to educate, empower and enable people and communities to make conscious choices that protect both people and the planet.
Educate the local community about the environmental and social impacts of plastic production and consumption. Promote alternatives to single-use plastics through workshops, campaigns and community outreach. Highlight the connections between environmental degradation and inequality.
Support individuals and the community in reducing plastic use through practical tips and sharing success stories. Collaborate with local businesses, schools and organisations to adopt sustainable practices. Create a network of people who share skills, ideas and solutions for sustainable living.
Engage in local advocacy and dialogue with policymakers to encourage stronger environmental protection and plastic reduction measures.
Plastic pollution is an issue which affects all parts of society and is something that we can all take action on, at every level. It is only through real, collective and positive action that we can make a difference.
SustEnable Wokingham is set up as part of Plastic Free Communities, a Surfers Against Sewage initiative that provides a framework to help communities reduce their plastic consumption and carbon footprint. SustEnable Wokingham uses their framework to enable you to get recognition for your conscious environmental efforts.
